DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Nursery has been in business for 77 years and is one of the largest wholesale growers of boxed trees and shrubs. We have over 1,000 acres across 8 different locations in California. As one of the largest wholesale nursery suppliers in the west, we strive to be a leader in the industry.
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Director of Operations with expertise in horticultural growing yards. The Director of Operations will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure that the production goals are met. Foster a positive and collaborative work culture, emphasizing safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for multi-site management of a nursery over 600 acres, including coordination of staff, contractors, material, equipment inventory, and compliance.
  • Directly supervise all aspects of production, day-to-day scheduling, and planning.
  • Responsible for plant efficiency, coordinates with various departments to assess plant needs.
  • Completes, maintains, and administers production forecast and planning paperwork.
  • Oversees duties related to the appropriate application of chemical and fertilizer products such as calculating product amounts and calibrating equipment.
  • Interacts with leads and management team to ensure accuracy, punctuality, and continuous improvement.
  • Implements safety regulations and policies and stays in compliance with all statutory regulations.
  • Review and control labor and supply costs. Ensure conformity to budgetary standards and sound operating standards/quality.
  • Responsible for hiring, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Manage, coach, and train all employees to ensure accurate results are achieved.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • 15+ years in the nursery industry.  
  • Strong leadership, management, problem solver and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with OSHA Safety and regulations.
  • Familiarity with California wage and hour laws.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite including Word and Excel.
